Summary
One of the causes of global warming and climate change is CO2. The current CO2 emission in the world is increasing day by day and the atmosphere and nature are no longer sufficient to store CO2.
The main objective of carbon sequestration is to balance the atmospheric carbon pool to keep the CO2 concentration below a threshold level. Carbon sequestration needs to be analysed in terms of efficiency, cost, environmental impacts, stability of sequestered carbon and time-scale of sequestration.
The principles and the procedures of the capture and sequestration techniques of carbon are discussed in this LO. The basic information about terrestrial, ocean and geological carbon sequestration are described. The reduction of the burden of nature and the development of storage techniques reduce carbon footprints, and thus an effective method is tried to be applied on global warming and climate change are explained.
Basics of new and innovative biotechnological applications and methods for the carbon sequestration are discussed under using the cyanobacteria, enzymes and microalgae technology.
